Hailsham is home ground. Our workshop is at Downash, on the eastern edge of the town, and a lot of the team live within a few miles of it. When a Hailsham customer calls, we are usually on site the same day to look at the job.
O&S is a family run firm with more than three decades of combined experience across the team. We work for homeowners, landlords and businesses across Hailsham and the villages around it, and because we have qualified electricians in the same firm, the wiring on any job is done by our own people.
Hailsham started as a market town, and the High Street and the roads around the church still have the older houses: brick and tile hung cottages, Georgian frontages, and the sort of buildings where a renovation has to respect what is there. Further out, the town has grown almost continuously since the 1960s, and most Hailsham homes are on the estates built from then onwards.
That newer stock is where we do most of our work here. Semis, detached houses and chalet bungalows from the 1960s, 70s and 80s have the gardens to take a rear extension, the garages that are more useful as rooms, and the lofts that convert into a bedroom without much fuss. The kitchens and bathrooms in many of them are also due a proper refurbishment rather than another patch up.
The most recent estates on the northern and eastern edges are newer still, and the work there is usually finishing and improvement: a better kitchen, a proper patio and driveway, a garden room base, or a garage conversion to gain a home office.
Home ground, so everything we offer is a short drive from the workshop. Every service
Single and double storey extensions, from the footings and the steel through to the last coat of paint.
Cold, half used garages made warm, dry and insulated, so you get a room you will actually live in.
Unused roof space turned into a proper bedroom, office or bathroom, with the stairs and the insulation done right.
Walls out, floors levelled, units fitted, and everything plumbed and wired by our own team.
Block paving, sandstone and resin, laid on the right sub base with the drainage thought about first.
Site clearance, bulk excavation, footings and drainage, so what goes on top has something to sit on.
Hailsham sits in the Wealden District Council area. Most extensions and loft conversions on the post war estates fall within permitted development and need building regulations only, which we arrange. Houses in the town centre conservation area and the older cottages in the villages can need a planning application, and we will tell you at the first visit which applies to yours. Building control inspections are a normal part of every job we do here.
Rear extensions and garage conversions on the estates built from the 1960s onwards are what Hailsham asks for most: the houses have the gardens and the garages, and a bigger kitchen or a home office is the obvious use of them. Loft conversions come next, particularly on the chalet bungalows where the roof space is already half a room.
Being a few minutes from the workshop, Hailsham also gives us a lot of the smaller jobs: a new driveway, a patio and garden wall, a bathroom, or a rewire. We are happy to do them, and being close means they get slotted in quickly.
Downash is on the edge of the town, so materials, tools and people are never far away.
Hailsham estimates are usually done within a day or two of your call.

Yes. It is one of the most common jobs we do on the Hailsham estates. We insulate it, sort the floor, the heating and the electrics, and have it signed off by building control so it counts as a proper room.

Yes. Replacing a worn concrete or tarmac drive with block paving or resin is one of the jobs we do most on the Hailsham estates, with the base and the drainage done by our own groundworkers.
Usually, yes. Some of the newest estates have planning conditions that remove permitted development rights, so we check before we quote and handle the application if one is needed.
