Willingdon sits between Polegate and Eastbourne, with the Downs rising behind it, and it is about as close to home as our work gets. Upper Willingdon, around the church and the old village, and Lower Willingdon, the larger twentieth century part of the village along the main road, are both a few minutes from where the firm is run.
O&S carries out extensions, loft and garage conversions, kitchens, bathrooms, driveways and renovations across Willingdon. We are family run, with more than three decades of combined experience, and our own electricians handle the wiring on every job.
Upper Willingdon is the older village, with flint and brick cottages, a handful of larger period houses and the church, and it sits right against the South Downs. The work here is renovation, sympathetic extension and the occasional loft conversion on a house that has stood for a century or two, with planning to think about on some of it.
Lower Willingdon is where most of the homes are. Built largely between the 1930s and the 1970s along and behind the main road, it is a village of bungalows, chalet bungalows and semis on decent plots, exactly the stock that suits a single storey rear extension, a loft conversion into the roof space, or a garage turned into a home office. Kitchens and bathrooms of that era are often ready for a full refurbishment, and the original drives are usually due replacing.
The newer housing on the Eastbourne side of the village is more recent, and the work there is mostly improvement: kitchens, bathrooms, patios and garden room bases.
Willingdon also has a stretch of larger detached houses on the roads that climb towards the Downs, where the work runs to double storey extensions, full refurbishments and, now and again, rebuilding a garage or outbuilding to match the house.

Willingdon is administered by Eastbourne Borough Council, and the upper village runs up to the South Downs National Park boundary. On the twentieth century housing in Lower Willingdon, permitted development usually covers a rear extension, a loft conversion or a garage conversion, with building regulations doing the rest. Nearer the old village and the Downs, a planning application is more likely. We check before we quote and handle whatever is needed.
Lower Willingdon's bungalows and semis are made for single storey rear extensions and loft conversions, and those two jobs make up most of what we do here. Garage conversions, new kitchens and bathrooms and replacement driveways fill in the rest.
In Upper Willingdon the requests lean towards renovation: period cottages that need the roof, the timbers and the services sorted, done carefully and with the planners where the National Park boundary requires it.
