Seaford sits between the Downs and the sea at the mouth of the Cuckmere, a short run from Polegate over the A27 and down the A259. It has a Victorian centre near the seafront and the station, and behind it some of the largest areas of twentieth century bungalows and family housing on this part of the coast, climbing towards Seaford Head and out along Chyngton.
O&S carries out extensions, loft and garage conversions, kitchens, bathrooms, driveways and renovations across Seaford. We are family run, with more than three decades of combined experience across the team, and our own electricians handle the wiring on every job.
The old town around the seafront and Broad Street has the Victorian and Edwardian houses: terraces, villas and flats, where the work is renovation, rewiring and bringing kitchens and bathrooms up to date, with the conservation area around the centre to bear in mind.
Most of Seaford, though, was built from the 1930s onwards, and the town is known for its bungalows and chalet bungalows. Chyngton, the roads up towards Seaford Head, East Blatchington and the estates towards Bishopstone are full of them, on plots generous enough for a rear extension and with roofs that convert into a bedroom or two. Loft conversions and single storey extensions are the jobs we do most here, closely followed by garage conversions, new kitchens and bathrooms, and driveways to replace worn concrete.
Bishopstone and the villages up the Cuckmere valley, Alfriston and Litlington among them, are older and more rural, with flint cottages and farmhouses where renovation and sympathetic extension are the order of the day.
Lofts and extensions on the bungalows, renovation on the older houses, and the kitchens and bathrooms in between. Every service
Unused roof space turned into a proper bedroom, office or bathroom, with the stairs and the insulation done right.
Single and double storey extensions, from the footings and the steel through to the last coat of paint.
Cold, half used garages made warm, dry and insulated, so you get a room you will actually live in.
Walls out, floors levelled, units fitted, and everything plumbed and wired by our own team.
Full bathroom and wet room fit outs, tanked and tiled properly so nothing moves in five years.
Block paving, sandstone and resin, laid on the right sub base with the drainage thought about first.
Seaford falls under Lewes District Council, and the southern and eastern edges of the town run up to the South Downs National Park boundary, with Bishopstone and the Cuckmere villages inside it. That can change what needs planning permission, particularly for dormers and extensions on the edge of town. On the main bungalow estates permitted development usually applies and building regulations cover the rest. We check your address before we quote and arrange whatever is needed.
Seaford's bungalows and chalet bungalows bring us loft conversions and single storey rear extensions more than anything else, along with garage conversions for the extra room a growing family needs. Kitchens, bathrooms and driveways follow on, often as part of the same project.
Around Broad Street and the seafront the Victorian houses bring renovations and rewires, and out in Bishopstone and the Cuckmere villages we are asked for sympathetic work on flint cottages inside the National Park, which brings its own planning care.
